Dr. Robert Suya
PhD in Navigation and Satellite Positioning, MSc Geodesy and Engineering Surveying
Suya earns a PhD in Navigation and Satellite Positioning from the University of Nottingham. He also has an MSc in Geodesy and Engineering Surveying from the same university. Suya is a Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) enthusiast and a renowned geodesist who specialises in utilising satellite data from orbits to measure dynamic surface changes. Suya has expertise in utilising the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and the Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS) to derive terrestrial water storage. His recent focus revolves around advancing robust Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) techniques through GNSS signals. He is also a strong advocate for integrating Artificial Intelligence into GNSS applications. Currently, his primary efforts are directed towards the utilisation of GNSS and artificial intelligence to enhance environmental monitoring.
He is currently working as a lecturer in the Land surveying Department under the School of Built Environment. Before joining academics, he worked for different construction and utility companies as a geomatics and measurements engineer. He was heavily involved in the design of water distribution lines, highways, and overhead transmission power lines.
