Dr Katengeza, a Lecturer (Physics), has a diverse research experience on radiation and radioactivity having collaborated with the Japan Atomic Energy Agency for three years, with Hirosaki University for one year, Nagasaki University for one year, and Japan Science Foundation (Science Museum) for one year. she holds of PhD in Environmental Radioactivity from the University of Tokyo, a Master of Science in Medical Physics from the University of Surrey (United Kingdom), and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Technology (Physics major).
Her research experience include radiocesium measurement and risk assessment in Fukushima, Japan; optimisation simulations for a nuclear medicine semiconductor detector, Geiger Mueller radiation detectors for secondary school radiation education, and biogas production. Her ORCID link is https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7356-733X
She teaches Applied Nuclear Physics, and Energy Technology and Industry in MUBAS' Department of Physics and Biochemical Sciences, which she joined in 2014 from the, then, College of Medicine (UNIMA) where she had taught Foundation year Physics since 2010. Her other engagements included teaching at Malawi University of Science and Technology; and guest lecturing for an International Atomic Energy Agency training targeting secondary school teachers from the Asia-Pacific region.
She currently serves as the President of Malawi Women in Nuclear, is a member of Women in Nuclear-Global and of the Society of Radiological Protection (UK), and has recently become invited to join a task group on naturally occurring radioactive materials for the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA). Her passion is to advance nuclear science and technology use, applications, research, education and training in Malawi and Africa.
Apart from academia, Estiner Katengeza continues to pursue her passion for music, which dates back to her undergraduate studies. She has two albums, one extended playlist, and several singles that play on major streaming platforms such as Spotity, iTunes, Deezer, Apple Music, and YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8dMk3i81Yip0j5dI4F49kw)
