Research Interests
Phytochemistry of natural products with anti-cancer properties (1), Characterisation of Functional Foods and Herbal Medicines using chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques (HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS and NMR) coupled with chemometric tools (2), Phenolic compounds, Alkaloids and Antioxidant Activity measurement (DPPH, ABTS, FRAP & ORAC) in natural products and biological fluids or systems (3), Characterisation and value addition to indigenous fruits of Malawi (4).
David Tryson Tembo is a Senior Lecturer at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS). He is a holder of a Doctor of Philosophy, PhD (Food Science, University of Leeds, United Kingdom, 2017), Master of Science, MSc (Applied Chemistry, University of Malawi, 2008) and Bachelor of Education Science, BEDs (Physical Sciences, University of Malawi, 2001) degree certificates. His PhD research focused on Characterisation of Phytochemicals in Functional Foods and Herbal Medicines using state of the art analytical techniques including 1H NMR, HPLC, LC-MS and GC-MS. David has over seventeen (17) publications in Peer Reviewed High Impact Factor Journals.
David has over 21 years of research and teaching experience both Face to Face as well as Online obtained from different Universities in United Kingdom (University of Leeds, University of Liverpool, University of East Anglia, University of Loughborough, University of Glasgow and Sheffield Hallam University) and Malawi (Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, Chancellor College and Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences) as well as High Schools (Leeds East Academy, UK), Kamuzu Academy and Saint Andrews International High School, Malawi). David has supervised over one hundred (100) PG (PhD, MPhil, MSc, MES) and UG Research students Globally including University of Leeds and Sheffield Hallam University (UK); Chancellor College (Mw), Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (Mw). David Tembo is proficient in both oral and written English. Highly computer literate (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) including several statistical packages (SPSS, GENSTAT and R Commander). David is Christian, and Church Elder (Presbyterian) and likes site seeing, watching football and tennis during free time. David is married with a family of two children aged between 15 and 18.
