Biography & Background
Dr. Thokozani Zylma Madumuse is a scholar, academic, and researcher in Business and Management at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), where she serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Business Administration. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business and Management from the University of Zambia, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Aberdeen, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Helderberg College. She also holds a Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard University.
Dr. Madumuse’s academic and research work focuses on strategic management, strategy implementation, stakeholder management, organisational behaviour, agricultural cooperatives, and organisational performance. Her research is particularly concerned with understanding how organisations can translate strategic plans into effective action and how internal capabilities and stakeholder relationships influence organisational outcomes. Her work on strategy implementation in Malawian agricultural cooperatives contributes to understanding the practical challenges facing organisations operating within Malawi’s socio-economic and institutional environment.
At MUBAS, Dr. Madumuse is actively engaged in research, postgraduate supervision, academic development, and institutional leadership. She is a member of the MUBAS Research and Ethics Committee (MUBASREC), where she contributes to the ethical review and governance of research, and serves as the PhD Coordinator for the School of Business and Economic Sciences. She also contributes to research and innovation initiatives at the University and has experience in curriculum development, academic quality assurance, and stakeholder engagement.
Her research and professional experience extends beyond academia into consultancy and applied research. She has undertaken consultancy assignments involving agricultural cooperatives, logistics strategy, financial management, resource mobilisation, and skills development, working with organisations including the British Council, Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Malawi National Council of Sports, and Land O’Lakes Venture37. This combination of academic scholarship and practical engagement gives her research a strong orientation toward addressing real-world organisational and development challenges.
Dr. Madumuse has published research on strategy implementation and agricultural cooperatives in Malawi and continues to contribute to scholarship through research, postgraduate supervision, consultancy, and academic leadership. Her work reflects a commitment to generating research that is both academically rigorous and relevant to organisations, institutions, and communities in Malawi and beyond.
