PhD In Environmental Health (Water and food safety)
Dr. Steven Elias Taulo was born on 7th November, 1962. He holds the following academic and professional qualifications; PhD in Environmental Health (Water, Sanitation and Microbial Food safety) obtained from Norwegian University of Life Science, (Norway); Master of Technology in Environmental Health and Bachelor of Technology in Environmental Health from Tswane University of Technology (South Africa); Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Malawi; Higher National Diploma in Sanitary Engineering from the University of Mauritius and Diploma in Public Health from the University of Malawi. He is a member of International Federation of Environmental Health (IFEH) and currently Associate Fellow of Malawi Environmental Health Association.
He is currently a Research Associate for Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Appropriate Technology Development (WASHTED) Centre at Malawi Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi and his current principal area of specialisation and research is in Environmental Sanitation and Health. He also teaches Water and Sanitation, Water Resources Management, Waste management (Wastewater) and Environmental Pollution in the
Departments of Environmental Health, Physics and Biological Science and Civil Engineering as well as Research Methods for Masters of Business Administration and Environmental Health to Kamuzu College of Nursing and College of Medicine (Malawi). He has over 20 years of experience in teaching and research, Outreach and Consultancy in Environmental Health and sanitation.
Dr. Taulo has been involved in the Agriculture, Nutrition and Health Project (Water, Hygiene and sanitation promotion) funded by the Norwegian Higher Education Link (NUFU), SHARE project and National Commission of Science and Technology Projects (Environmental Sanitation). He has also been involved in the following consultancy work; Medical waste Management and National Sanitation and Hygiene strategy Development (for Ministry of Health and its water and sanitation partners), National Environmental Health Research gap analysis in Malawi with National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST), UNICEF, World Health Organisation, World Bank and Ministry of Health.
Dr Taulo is currently involved in the consultancy work in partnership with Lape consulting film (Development of a successor Malawi National Sanitation policy). He is also a Team member of MUBAS involved in the European Project (Promoting Organic Systems of Soil Improvement to Build a Lasting Economy (POSSIBLE)
Dr. Taulo worked for the Ministry of Health as an Environmental Health Officer responsible for the management of preventive health services, promotion of rural and urban sanitation in the districts, including disease control. He worked as Hygiene Education and sanitation co-coordinator for the Mpira-Balaka Piped water Project in Balaka and the World Vision Water and sanitation Project in Salima (Malawi) responsible for the promotion of hygiene and sanitation using Sanitation marketing, PHAST and HESP approaches
As a Researcher, Dr Taulo has a number of publications in Water and sanitation and food safety in international journals and has presented a number of papers at international forums.
