Research Interests
Factors affecting civil servants' participation in domestic tourism. A case study of teachers, immigration officers and lands officers in Blantyre, Factors hindering Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in tourism industry from obtaining tourism operating license. A case study of SMEs in Blantyre.
Steria Chataika is a tourism professional with more than 10 years' work experience in the field.
She worked as a lodge Manager for Boadzulu Lakeshore resort but also as a front office supervisor at the Makokola retreat. Later joined the Ministry of tourism where she worked as a tourism officer.

she has vast knowledge in Tourism marketing, Standards and Safety as well as tourism planning and development.

She has a bachelor's degree in Tourism Management (Mzuzu University)
Certificate in tourism development and Management for Malawi (Ministry of Commerce of the people's Republic of China)
Certificate in Tourism and Hotel management for developing countries. ((Ministry of Commerce of the people's Republic of China).

She has great passion in developing the tourism industry in Malawi, a Tourist destination which is compact in size, rich in contrast and big in hospitality. She has a desire to see Malawi's tourism products trading well on the international market, but also to see the domestic tourism market growing significantly by setting up and implementing proper marketing strategies.

Her research interest is on "Assessing factors that hinder Small and Medium enterprises from obtain Tourism operating licenses but also to assess factors that affect civil servants' participation in domestic tourism.
