Radiation Protection and safety, Environmental Radiation Monitoring, Nuclear Fuel Cycle, Nuclear Energy, Nuclear policy, regulation and licensing, Nuclear Security, Radiopharmaceuticals, Renewable energy.
Josephine Nkhula is a Lecturer in Applied Physics, specializing in Nuclear Science and Technology, within the Department of Physics and Biochemical Sciences at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS). She teaches a range of Applied Physics modules, including Applied Nuclear Physics, Energy Technology and Industry alongside other core physics modules.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Technology (Physics) from MUBAS and a Master of Science in Nuclear Science and Technology from the University of Manchester. Her research interests span several critical areas in nuclear and renewable energy including experimental reactor physics, radiation shielding, radiation protection and safety, nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear security, nuclear energy systems, radiopharmaceutical development and applications, environmental radiation monitoring and renewable energy technologies.

Her work contributes to the advancement of peaceful nuclear applications in Malawi, with a focus on capacity building and interdisciplinary collaboration. She is also actively involved in outreach and advocacy for women in STEM through her role as the General Secretary for the Women in Nuclear Malawi Chapter.
