Florence Thomo is a Senior lecturer in Mathematics Education at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS). She holds a PhD in Curriculum and Teaching Studies (University of Malawi), a Master of Education in Mathematics Education (Hiroshima University, Japan), a Bachelor of Education (University of Malawi), a Diploma in Education (Domasi College of Education, Malawi) and a primary teachers' Certificate (Blantyre teacher Training College, Malawi).

Her work is lecturing, assessing and supervising students' research projects at both graduate and undergraduate levels. She is also a member of MUBAS research ethics committee.

Other than lecturing, Florence Thomo has vast experience in providing preservice as well as inservice teacher education for secondary and primary school teachers in the field of Mathematics Education. She has also contributed much to Malawi primary school curriculum review. Another major contribution is her Excel and Succeed Mathematics textbooks for Forms one to four. Her research interest and contributions are in Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching (MKT), teachers' teaching practices and students' understanding and misconceptions in particular.

Florence Thomo has so far worked in collaboration with Ministry of Education, the Malawi Institute of Education and other universities in provision of Continuous Profession Development (CPD) to primary and secondary school teachers in the field of Mathematics Education in Malawi.

1. Mathematics Education Specialist: Equity with Quality Learning in Secondary Schools (EQUALS) project run by Ministry of Education. 2019 to date

4. Co-Investigator: Context Matters research programme: Enhancing learner-centred practices among pre-service trainee-teachers through the use of mobile devices as learning tools in Malawi. 2023-2024
